Internet access around the world: the global digital divide

A global fact with a clear date

This is a worldwide estimate for 2025, not a live counter. It describes internet use across the population. It does not establish the quality of an individual’s connection.

Access is only part of the story

An online connection can support learning, work, and contact with family. Its usefulness also depends on affordability, reliability, suitable devices, and digital skills. Reading this page shows you are connected now; it does not show that you have reliable access at home.

How to read country comparisons

For a country comparison, use the same indicator definition and check the observation year. The World Bank publishes ITU’s individuals-using-the-internet indicator. Missing observations should remain missing rather than being treated as zero.

A perspective to take with you

Being connected creates an opportunity to learn and participate. This is a comparison of access to a service, not a ranking of people’s value or a measure of overall life quality.
